Fan Rec Friday 6: The Reccening

FRF is back! Last week's recs were abandoned in favor of finishing Hockey Big Bang  which just started posting this weekend and already has some amazing stories. 


The Album: 

1) Hamilton - Original Broadway Cast Recording

I KNOW I'M SORRY. Everybody and their mother is talking about this soundtrack and I had to wait a bit before I could listen to the whole thing. Guys. Guys. It was so worth it. Much smarter and more eloquent people than I have already reviewed this album, I'm just here to tell you to give it a chance if you haven't already. I honestly can't pick a favorite track. The actors and writers are amazing on every song, even Say No to This, which is my least listened-to track, is beautifully sung. Right now I'm obsessed with the Cabinet Battles, especially the second one, mostly for the way LMM yells you must be outta your goddamn mind.

1) Hotline Bling- Drake 

WHY. 

The terrible dad dancing. The turtlenecks. The mood lighting. I love it???

The Fics: 

1)  History Painting by M_leigh (MCU) Steve/Bucky  7k

This fic follows the timeline of events up through the Winter Soldier, but does so by focusing on the ways Steve and Bucky interact with art and art history over the (considerable) span of their lives. I love that this story really leans into Steve being an art student, and the author was kind enough to embed the majority of the artworks in the fic, which really brings the story to another level. There are so many good art history things happening here, plus, the ending is super sweet and satisfying. Two thumbs up! 

2) The Sidhe Prince by orphan_account (BBC Merlin) Merlin/Arthur 67k

One thing I really miss about Merlin fandom is the abundance of magic and mythology that was the basis of so much fic. The author really gets into the Sidhe (fairy) lore, and the myths surrounding Avalon. It also features Royal Merlin, which I love, and Competent Ruler Morgana, which I love even more for the sheer rarity of it. Ultimately though this is Arthur's fic, and the ending had me bawling into a box of tissues. This is my favorite version of Arthur, the kind of Arthur I was always waiting for in the series, and this fic is worth the read for that alone. 

3) Without Access, Favor, Or Discretion by 7iris (Hockey RPF)  PK/Carey 2k

I never thought I'd read a story where the Grand Romantic Gesture was a dickpic but here we are. And what a romantic gesture it is.
